Weekly Emails can now be viewed on our Club News page.
Delco Spring Fling – Every year Delco RRC hosts a Spring Extravaganza for all club members. This year we want your input as to what you would like to do. Please click on the following link and let us hear from you. Last year we held a casino night which was a big hit. But you choose one that we listed or add one of your own. Thank you sooo much for taking the time to do this. Click Here to take survey.
Marathon Water Stop - The Philadelphia Marathon will be held on Sunday, November 23, the Sunday before Thanksgiving. Delco RRC will be operating the water stop along Kelly Drive that the runners pass at about mile 16 and again at mile 24 1/2 as is tradition. As those of you who have worked it in the past know, the marathon continues to grow and we need lots of volunteers to keep up. While it is busy, its also a lot of fun, a chance to spend some time with your Delco friends, and an opportunity to help the Philadelphia running community.
We will be working from early morning until early afternoon. Carpool / Convoy will leave the Springfield Library at 5:30 that morning to get down there to set up and avoid the road closures.
Please let Terry Adamson know whether or not you will be able to help if you have not already spoken to him, Terry's email, phone number is 215-519-5023.
Book Club – Next meeting is December 7th at 2pm. A Confederacy of Dunces has been selected. The club meeting will be held in Shirley Weber’s home. Contact Shirley email to get her address. I hope to see more of you there this time. There was so much food left over last time poor Marcy and Heinz had to get a gym membership to work off the extra calories.
Happy reading!
Women's Distance Festival - It was a great day, with wonderful weather and even better company. We had 105 register, and just a few no-shows. The runners could get pre- and post-race massages from Glenn and Chuck of Optimum Physical Therapy. Nolan Painting set up a water-stop on the course. The Running Place donated gift certificates for the top three winners--Sara McNally, Courtney Stanton, and Grace Mancini—and the store also held a raffle, giving away a Moving Comfort Sports bra to five winners of the drawing: Donna Bierling, Gina Bell, Connie Huston, Suzanne Lelan and Beth Scolis. Sponsors lucy and RuppFitness.com had a table at the race, Whole Foods Market provided the tasty treats, and sponsors DrLeeCohen.com, Brazill Insurance, and Gormley Electric were on site. Run the Day Race Management timed the race, and copies of the Women’s Yellow Pages were in every race bag.
Thanks to everyone. I hope to see you back again next year.
A.

Wanted: Old sneaks and shirts - How many pairs of running shoes do you really need. One? Maybe two? Okay, three is good, too. But what about all the others clogging your closets? How about dropping them off at Bill Battey Sporting Goods, 1 West Front Street, Media (across from the fire station). Battey’s is collecting gently used athletic shoes that somehow, someway end up benefiting the poor in Africa. Details at Perpetual Prosperity Pump Foundation. Tom Emmons at Battey’s also says he has African runners coming in to the store asking for race T-shirts and just about anything else they can get for their countrymen (and women), so if you have wayyyyy too many shirts in your drawers, bring them to Battey’s, too.
Newsletter Archive - Joe Freiberg has done the club a great service and I think you'll also like it. Many of the club old-timers have regaled me with tales of how well they used to run. Now when I talk to someone that suffers from dementia I just slowly back away while nodding my head up and down. I'm sure you've seen me doing this a lot. But some of them may have actually been telling me the truth. Check out the Newsletter Archive and relive a bit of club history. The club could use your help in adding more newsletters to the archive. If you have any that are missing, please contact Joe Freiberg.
